To Him alone belongs (He alone possesses) whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth and whatsoever is between the two and what is beneath the earth’s crust (under the layer of the soil).
When he saw a fire, he said to his family, ‘Remain here. I have seen a fire. May be that I can bring you an ember from it or find someone by the fire to tell the way.’
Tāhā 20:11
So when he reached near it (the fire), a voice (from Allah) called out, ‘O Musa (Alaihi as-Salam)!
He submitted, ‘This is my staff; I lean on it and (at times) beat down leaves with it for my goats, and there are also other uses in it for me.’
Tāhā 20:19
It was commanded, ‘O Musa (Alaihi as-Salam)! Throw it (on the ground).’
That: place him (Musa-Alaihi as-Salam) in a casket (to save him from the murderers), then cast him in the river, then the river will bring him to the bank, and My and his enemy will pick him up. And, O Musa (Alaihi as-Salam) I spread love upon you from Myself (that whoever sees you, loves you), and so that you may be brought up in front of Me.
When your sister came walking (to Fir‘aun’s house) and said, ‘Should I give you the address of a person who will bring him up (very well). Then We returned you to your mother so that her eyes may be cooled and she does not grieve. And you killed a person and We delivered you from grief, and We tried you thoroughly. Then you stayed for several years among the Madyan people. Then, O Musa (Alaihi as-Salam), you came up to the measure (of Prophethood and Messengership).
Thus, go to him and say, ‘We are both (Messengers) sent by your Rabb. So, send the Bani Isra’eel with us and do not cause them hardship. Indeed, we have brought you the Sign (of Prophethood) from your Rabb. And peace be on the one who follows guidance.
It is He, Who made the earth a floor for you and made paths in it for you and rained water from the sky; then with this (water) We grew various types of vegetation.
So we too will certainly bring similar magic to confront you. So appoint a time between yourself and us which neither we nor you shall fail, (this contest will take place) in a plain ground.’
He (Musa-Alaihi as-Salam) said, ‘The promised time for you (for your contest) will be the day of (your) festival (of Nauroze), and that (on this day) the people should be assembled in the late morning.’
Musa (Alaihi as-Salam) said to them (the magicians), ‘Woe to you! Do not fabricate a lie against Allah, else He will annihilate you with the torment. And whoever fabricated a lie, he assuredly failed.
(Finally, consenting unanimously) they said, ‘These two are magicians. They want to drive you out of your land by (the might of) their magic and destroy your excellent (religious) customs.
He said, ‘Rather you throw (first).’ Then suddenly, because of their magic, their ropes and their sticks began appearing in his (Musa-Alaihi as-Salam’s) imagination as (though) they were racing (like snakes).
And throw that (staff) which is in your right hand. It (the staff) will swallow all that these people have contrived. Undoubtedly, what they have contrived are just the artifices of magicians. And a magician will never succeed wherever he may go.’
(Fir‘aun) said, ‘You have believed in him before I gave you permission! Surely he is your chief (teacher) who has taught you magic. So I will surely have your hands and feet cut off from opposite sides, and will crucify you on the trunks of date palms, and you will come to know whose torment among us is more severe and longer lasting.’
They said, ‘We will never give you preference over the proofs that have come to us and over the One Who created us; so decide whatever you want to; indeed, you can issue orders only in this worldly life.
Indeed, we have believed in our Rabb, so that He may forgive our sins and (also) the magic to which you compelled us, and Allah is the Best and the Everlasting.’
And We sent Revelation to Musa (Alaihi as-Salam), ‘Take these slaves of Mine (the Bani Isra’eel) within the night, then make a dry path for them by striking the sea (with the staff), so that there does not remain for you any kind of apprehension of being pursued nor any fear (of being captured).’
O Bani Isra’eel! Indeed We delivered you from your enemy, and We promised you (your Messenger) (to come) on the right side of the Toor and We granted you Manna and Salwa (in the valley of Tiyah).
Eat the wholesome things We have granted you, and do not exceed the limits in this (food), lest My torment befalls you. And the one upon whom My torment descends is indeed destroyed (bygone).
And indeed I am (also) Forgiving for those people who repent and believe and perform righteous deeds and then (also) remain (steadfast) on (this) path.
So Musa (Alaihi as-Salam) returned to his people, full of anger (and) grief (and) said, ‘O my people! Did your Rabb not make a good promise with you? Had then some more time (than the appointed period) passed over you? Or did you want that wrath from your Rabb should befall you, so for this (reason) you broke the promise you had made with me?’
They said, ‘We did not break the promise we had made with you of our own accord, but we were carrying the load of the ornaments of the (Coptic) people; this we cast (in the fire on Samri’s suggestion), then likewise did Samri also cast.’
Then he (made and) took out a calf for these people, (it) (was) a mold in which there was a (meaningless) sound. So the people started saying (to one another), ‘This is your Ilaha and this is (also) the Ilaha of Musa (Alaihi as-Salam), but he has forgotten.’
And indeed Haroon (Alaihi as-Salam) had already told these people (before the return of Musa-Alaihi as-Salam), ‘O my people! Indeed you have only been tried by this. And assuredly your (True) Rabb is the Rahman (The Most Merciful), so follow me and obey me.’
He said, ‘O my brother! Do not grab my beard and (the hair of) my head, indeed I feared that you would say, ‘You caused dissension among the Bani Isra’eel, and you disregarded my word.’
Tāhā 20:95
(Addressing Samri) He said, ‘O Samri! So, what is your case?’
He said, ‘I saw something which others did not see, so I picked up a fistful (or so) of the dust from the footprint of the one (the angel) sent by Allah and then put it in this (the mold of the calf). And this is what appealed to my soul.’
He said, ‘Begone! Thus the punishment for you in this (worldly) life is that you keep saying, ‘No one to touch (me),’ and certainly (besides this) there is one (other) promise (of torment) for you which will never be averted from you. And look at this Ilaha of yours, (the Ilaha whose worship) you were set on (devoted to). We will certainly burn it, then we will blow and scatter it (its ash) in the river.
This Day (each and every one) will follow behind a Caller, (they will be) unable to deviate (from following him). And all voices will be subdued (with awe) before the Rahman (Allah). So (O addressee!) you will hear no sound apart from that of whispers.
And in this manner, We have revealed the Arabic Quran, and We have cited various events in it to warn (of the torment), so that those people may become Allah-conscious or that (this Quran) may generate produce some understanding in them.
Thus Allah, Who is the Real Sovereign, is greatly Exalted in Majesty. And you should not hasten in (the recitation of) the Quran before its Revelation is completed to you; and pray thus: ‘O my Rabb! Increase my knowledge.’
And indeed, We took a pledge from Adam (Alaihi as-Salam) before, then he forgot (it), and We did not find in him the resolve (the intention to disobey).
So We said, ‘O Adam (Alaihi as-Salam)! Indeed he is yours as well as your wife’s enemy. So, he may not have both of you expelled from Paradise, (and) then you land up in hardship.
Then Shaitan enticed them (and) said, ‘O Adam (Alaihi as-Salam) should I tell you of such a tree that has the property of (imparting) eternal life and such kingship which never weakens?’
Then both ate from it (the fruit of the tree), so their nakedness was exposed to them and both began sticking leaves of (the trees) of Paradise upon themselves (to cover their bodies). And Adam (Alaihi as-Salam) went against the Command of his Rabb, so he fell into error.
It was commanded, ‘Get down the two of you from this (Paradise). Some of you will be the enemies of the others (in the world). Then if guidance comes to you from Me, then whoever follows My guidance, he will neither go astray (in the world) nor will he suffer distress (in the Hereafter).
And whoever turns away from My Zikr (guidance), indeed for him (in the world) will be a straitened life, and We shall raise him blind (from the grave) on the Day of Qiyamah.
And thus will We punish (every) such person who crossed the limit and did not believe the Ayaat of his Rabb. And the torment of the Hereafter is very severe and is everlasting.
So did these people not receive admonition even from this (fact), that We have destroyed many groups before them, in whose dwellings they walk about (going to and fro)? Indeed therein are many signs for the intelligent.
And were it not for a previously issued Word from your Rabb and a term set (for the recompense of deeds), it (the descent of the torment) would have become due.
So bear patiently with whatever they are saying and glorify your Rabb with (His) Praise, before the rising of the sun and before its setting. And also glorify (Him) in the hours of the night, and also at the beginning and end of the day (all the daily Salah are also included in this), so that you may be pleased (by His blessing).
And on no account lift your eyes (pay no attention) towards the things that We have granted to various (unbelieving) people for their trial, as that is (only) the glitter of the worldly life. The provision bestowed by your Rabb is (greatly) superior and lasting.
And keep enjoining Salah on your family (followers) and remain steadfast in this (yourself). We do not ask any provision from you. (Rather) it is We, Who grant you provision. And the good end is for the Allah-conscious.
And they say, ‘Why does he (the Messenger) not bring us a sign (miracle) from his Rabb?’ Did signs not reach them through that which is in the former Books?
And had We destroyed them with the torment before (sending the Messenger), these people would certainly have said, ‘O our Rabb! Why did You not send us a Messenger so that we could have followed Your Message (Commands) before being humiliated and disgraced?’
Say, ‘Everyone is waiting (for the consequence of his deeds), so you also wait. Soon you will (also) come to know who are the rightly guided and who has reached the objective (destination).’
