He it is, Who drove the unbelievers among the People of the Book (Banu Nuzair) collectively, out of their homes, on the very first occasion. You had not even thought that they would ever go out (of homes), and they had thought that their forts would protect them from Allah. So, (the torment of) Allah reached them from a place whence they had not even expected (it), and (He) cast awe into their hearts that, they were destroying their homes with their own hands and by the hands of the believers. So, learn a lesson, O you who possess vision.
And had Allah not inscribed banishment in their fate, He would have certainly punished them in the world; and (prepared) for them in the Hereafter is the torment of Hell.
And whatever property Allah passed on to His Messenger from them (without fighting), you did not spur any horses or camels for it; but Allah grants dominance to His Messengers (Alaihim as-Salam)over whomever He wills, and Allah has Absolute Power over everything.
Whatever property Allah passed on to His Messenger from other townships (without fighting), is for Allah and for the Messenger, and for the near of kin and the orphans and the needy and the traveller, so that it does not keep circulating only within the hands of the rich among you; and take whatever the Messenger grants you, and refrain from whatever he forbids you, and remain conscious of Allah; without doubt, Allah is the Giver of severe torment.
For those needy emigrants, who were driven out of their homes and possessions, they are the seekers of the Grace and Good Pleasure of Allah, and (they) help (the Deen of)Allah and His Messenger. It is these people, who are the true (believers).
And for those (people also), who settled before them (before these Muhajireen) in the home (of migration) and remained (firm) on faith, (and) these people love the one who migrates and comes to them, and whatever they (the Muhajireen) receive, these (Ansaar) do not feel any envy for it in their hearts and prefer them (the Muhajireen) above themselves even though they themselves may be needy; and the person who is protected from the greed of his Nafs, it is such people who are going to reach the goal.
And (there is a right in the property of Fai, alsoof) those people who came after them. They pray, ‘O our Rabb! Forgive our sins and of our brethren who embraced faith before us, and let not jealousy (miserliness) develop in our hearts against the believers. O our Rabb! Indeed You are Extremely Affectionate (and) Merciful.’
Have you not seen those hypocrites, who say to their unbeliever brethren, who are (from the) People of the Book, ‘If you are driven out, we will surely go out with you and will never obey anyone in your affair, and if you are fought against, we will surely help you’? And Allah is Witness that they are (absolute) liars.
If they are driven out they will not go out with them, and if they are fought against they will not help them; and even if they do help they will certainly flee turning their backs, then they will find no help.
They will not fight against you people, not even together, except (taking refuge) inside the forts of townships or (hiding) behind the cover of walls. Their mutual enmity is very severe. (O addressee!) You consider them united while their hearts are divided. This is because they are a people without sense.
Their example is like those people who, only a short while before them, have savoured (in this world) the (taste of) punishment of their deeds, and for them is a painful torment (in the Hereafter).
The example of these (hypocrites) is like that of the Shaitan when it says to man, ‘Become an unbeliever,’ then, when he becomes an unbeliever, he says, ‘I have no concern with you. Without doubt, I am afraid of Allah, the Rabb of the worlds.’
O believers! Remain conscious of Allah and every person should see what (goods) he has sent for the morrow (Qiyamah), and remain conscious of Allah. Without doubt, Allah is Aware of all your deeds.
Had We sent this Quran down upon a mountain, you would have seen it (O addressee) humbled (and) bursting due to the fear of Allah. And We cite these examples for people so that they reflect.
He, Allah is Such Ilaha that, there is no one worthy of worship other than Him. He is the Knower of the Unseen and the Seen. He is Very Kind, Extremely Merciful.
He, Allah is Such Ilaha that, there is no one worthy of worship other than Him. He is (the Real) Sovereign, the Holy, the Granter of Peace, the Granter of Security, the Guardian, the Dominant, the Subduer, the Owner of Greatness. Hallowed is Allah from the associates that these people set up
He, Allah is the Creator, the Maker, the Designer; for Him are all good Names. All things that are in the heavens and in the earth celebrate His Glory, and He is the Dominant, the Wise.
